Dorset Invader Weekend - Roundup - June 16-17

Dorset Invader Weekend - Roundup - June 16-17

East Farm was well and truly invaded for this weekend's White Star Running race. Hosted by the Tory's the stage was set for the return of the Invader Races, with the half marathon and chaos race on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday. Not only did the runners turn up for this awesome event in their hoards but the sun also came in full force to add another element of difficulty to the challenging routes.

With runners arriving and camping from Friday afternoon the races kicked off on Saturday morning at 10:00. The runners were sent on their way in true Roman fashion with Junior Tory starting the race and our host Rupert leading the runners on a stallion out onto the Dorset trails.  A fantastic runnable route which in turn produced some top running on the day and a new course record.  At the end of the half it was already evident the sun was going to play its part and by the end of the race this could be seen with runners sprawled around the magnificent finish gantry.

For the evening schedule there was the Chaos Race; a lighthearted family event that was enjoyed by many before either retiring to camp or partying the night away at the bar \ disco.

On Sunday it was the turn of the marathon runners, including those crazy enough to run both the Half and Full Marathon and some even chucking the Chaos in for a full set. Set off in Invader style at 09:00 the first half of the marathon was similar to the half marathon, very runnable and saw the leaders hit half way in 1 hour 30 minutes. However, even with the sun hidden by clouds for most of the time the temperature was rising rapidly and for those out running the second half with its added hills and overgrown paths the pace slowed with Mark Smith winning overall in a very respectable 03:31:44 and Mary Menon finishing 1st lady and 3rd overall in 03:42:27.

Congratulations to all runners on completing a brutal days running with the amazing sweeper Carolyn coming home in 07:56:00.
