nerd belt was created by professional triathlete Steve McKenna after he struggled to find a hydration belt that could carry everything he needed without bouncing. He set out to build a better option, designing a belt that could comfortably hold 400–600ml of fluid alongside a phone, gels, bars and other running essentials.

Steve’s understanding of endurance sport comes from experience at the highest level. After completing his first triathlon in 2015, he turned professional less than 12 months later and has since become a multiple IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 champion, including victories at IRONMAN Australia in 2023 and IRONMAN New Zealand in 2024.

What began as a single belt made for Steve soon attracted attention from other runners. After receiving constant requests to buy one, he produced an initial run of 500 belts and officially launched nerd belt.

Today, nerd belt has grown into a dedicated team with a shared goal: helping more runners carry their hydration and fuel comfortably at any pace. Lightweight, practical and built to stay securely in place, its belts are designed for everything from everyday training to marathons, triathlons and ultra-distance events.

ARE BOTTLES INCLUDED WITH NERD BELTS?

Yes. All nerd belt hydration belts and vests include bottles. Additional bottles can also be purchased separately as spares.

ARE NERD BELTS SUITABLE FOR RACES?

Yes. All nerd belts are race-approved and are widely used for marathons, ultramarathons and triathlons. They are also compatible with nerd belt race bib holder add-ons.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY NERD BELT?

Hand wash your nerd belt in cold water using a mild detergent, then allow it to air dry. Do not tumble dry, as this may affect its elasticity and shape.

ARE NERD BELTS WATERPROOF?

nerd belts are sweat-proof and splash-resistant, making them suitable for running in changing weather conditions. We recommend placing phones and other electronics in additional waterproof protection during heavy rain.
