Jo Meek - 2021 Race Preparations
How has training been with the uncertainty of the race going ahead?
Training is something I do as a way of life. I'm pretty intrinsically motivated and love running as part of my daily routine. However, I do train to race and I'm an optimist. I have ignored uncertainty knowing I always need to work on my pace and speed. Training has been wonderfully consistent for the last 3-4 months. I've mixed it up a bit- road and trails so that means a block of building to get me ready for a marathon in April is extended to allow some trail time too.
How has it been training more solo, where in the past it may have been more group focused?
I live on Dartmoor so pretty isolated. My training is either on my own or with friend I arrange to meet and because we can meet one other person outside this has continued. My training routine with company hasn't altered. In fact, it's improved as I have a wonderful friend with more time in lockdown who has cycled with me over the linger harder workouts.
How have you coped over the past year with very limited races?
What event are you most looking forward to in 2021, and why?
I'm really looking forward to running a road marathon after sort of training for one. I would like to get a good for age time so when the entries open again for the 6 World Majors I can apply.
My first focus on the trails is in June - Mozart 109km in Austria. I've got my fingers crossed! If this happens then I think they all will because we'll be learning the live with this virus and adapting to a new way of life.
I'm also excited about a race in August called the TransRockies stage race. It's 6 days and 120 miles. I get to run with a dear friend as we've entered as a pair which is exciting. Roll on racing!
