INEOS 1.59 CHALLENGE VIENNA’19
ON OCTOBER 12TH 2019, ELIUD KIPCHOGE WILL ATTEMPT TO BECOME THE FIRST HUMAN TO RUN A SUB 2 HOUR MARATHON, SUPPORTED BY INEOS.
THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A GENERATION DEFINING MOMENT OF HUMAN ACHIEVEMENT AND ONE OF THE GREATEST SPORTING MOMENTS OF THE 21ST CENTURY.

FUELLING INEOS 1:59 CHALLENGE
IT CAN BE ESTIMATED THAT ELIUD KIPCHOGE EXPENDS >1200 KCAL PER HOUR AT 2:51 MIN/KM PACE - ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY FROM CARBOHYDRATES. KIPCHOGE WILL USE A MIXTURE OF GEL 100, GEL 100 CAF 100 AND HIGH CONCENTRATED MAURTEN SPORTS DRINKS. REGARDLESS OF EXTERNAL WEATHER, HE WILL MOST LIKELY AIM FOR 60 – 100 GRAMS OF CARBOHYDRATES PER HOUR. THIS AMOUNT WILL PREFERENTIALLY BE DISTRIBUTED EVERY 15 MIN OR 5 KM, E.G. AN EQUIVALENT OF 15 – 25 GRAMS OF CARBOHYDRATES PER FEEDING.
41 PACERS WILL SUPPORT KIPCHOGE, RUNNING BETWEEN 1-10K INTERVALS. THE PACERS PERFORMANCE WILL BE FUELED BY CARBOHYDRATE AND CAFFEINE. GEL 100 CAF 100 DURING WARM-UP CAN BE A USEFUL STRATEGY TO ENHANCE CARBOHYDRATE AVAILABILITY AND BLOOD CAFFEINE CONCENTRATIONS.
AFTER EACH 10KM, SOME CARBOHYDRATE FROM A HIGH-CONCENTRATED MAURTEN SPORTS DRINK WILL BENEFIT THE RECOVERY TILL NEXT 10KM.
