After placing 6th at the inaugural IRONMAN Leeds 2025 and winning the Age Group Half Distance title at Challenge Almere last year, pro triathlete Will Grace is stepping up in the pro field. In this Q&A with INFINIT Nutrition, he shares insights from his Ironman debut, how :JET FUEL fuelled his run, and his goals as he returns to Almere.
Thank you so much! Ironman Leeds was the result of months of preparation finalising with a 2 week training camp in Leysin, Switzerland. A result I was very happy with, especially my debut pro full Ironman.
The day started like most races, early start, breakfast, coffee, sipping :JET FUEL and soon doing all the final preparation in transition.
No dramas and onto swim start. The field wasn’t huge but the quality was high. I had to hit the swim hard from the start and work in the pack. I nailed this and came out the water in the second pack. I came out feeling calm and in control of the day ahead.
Onto the bike I knew I had to focus on myself and now get pulled into the group dynamics as I knew this was a long day. I let two riders go early on and focused on myself, my target power and that was the bike. 180km solo focusing on myself.
Then the run. I knew I had my run legs from the first km, so it was time to settle and run my run. Taking off with :JET FUEL in a flask to keep my going.
The first 20km was calm and collected, my normal, I know how this feels. Then next 10k was unknown territory. Focus here was on technique, cadence, nutrition. This is where a race can be lost so I had to stay on it.
The last 10k was a matter of counting down the kilometres, voiding cramps and keep pushing.
Crossing that finish line 6th was incredible!

For me my run is my strength. I have the ability to settle into my rhythm and zone easily. For me it’s natural. I had a game plan as mentioned above. Kilometres 20 to 30 I where races can be lost. Here is where I focused on technique, keeping cadence high and lifting the nutrition.
Despite the 2500m of elevation on the bike and the 450m on the run, I was able to hold consistent throughout. This is what I trained for in Leysin and all summer.
I had a bottle of :JET FUEL on the bike which I sipped throughout the bike to keep the legs feeling fresh. A 3 lap loop allowed me to know what was coming up and when I should take the jet fuel.
On the run I ran with a flask of :JET FUEL which was sipped throughout the run. Here I had no issues with stomach cramps or gut issues!
One of the most important things, I trained with it.
I train my nutrition so I don’t have issues in the race. However this was my first full distance and first time fuelling the run with :JET FUEL and the first time I did not have any gut issues post race!
100%! This was the first after a race that I zero stomach issues. This is something I have struggled with for years. But fuelling the run with :JET FUEL solved the issues as I had no digestion issues! Something I was very grateful for!
Perfectly! By having all my nutrition as liquid on the bike just makes sense. No need to waste time and speed getting out of aero position to get a gel and open it. Instead I grab the bottles between my arms take big gulps and put it back. When these are empty I swap them with the bottle behind in one motion. All whilst remaining locked in and fast!
On the run, having it as liquid is perfect. Not only are you hitting the required carbohydrate amounts, you’re also quenching your thirst. Gels cannot do that!
It's fundamental to the success. Having everything in one formula means you know exactly what you are taking, what amounts and when. As well as the added benefit of saving on the mental fatigue of trying to piece together your nutrition.

100%. I train with what I race with. Nutrition is simple, but it takes time to understand it and what your body needs and is able to digest. Look at the science and INFINIT reflect this. I know that INFINIT have nailed the carbohydrate formula for energy supply and digestion. I simply but in my bottles the night before a race and all I have to do is make sure I drink it all!
Do not be influenced by what you see professionals and “influencers” do on social media.
Nutrition is simple. There is no need to try and take 200g of carbs and hour, your body simply cannot digest it.
Stick to the science and what INFINIT does, they know what they are doing. Take away the stress from yourself and trust the people who know what they are doing. Train with it and you’ll fly on race day. And then finish with the COLD BREW!
So this race is a very special one. After the race last year I was told by the head of challenge I now need to step up to the pro field. That gave me a huge confidence boost, and is something I remind myself of today to wear off the imposter syndrome! I’m now racing with the top guys in the sport and I love it.
Not only this, but Almere is the home to Ku Cycle, my bike sponsor and partner. Ku has done so much for me both as an age grouper and as a professional! To come and race at their home race means so much and I just hope I can have a race they are proud of.
In all honesty. I will not change my plan for Almere. My strategy at Leeds worked perfectly. I shall ride with my custom mix and :JET FUEL and run with :JET FUEL. Yes, this course is flat, Leeds was not. But this has added challenges which I think my previous strategy, which I know works, will be perfect for.
My goals, top 5. Podium will be absolutely fantastic. But I know in order to achieve this I need to race my race, work hard on the bike and smash the run. After my run and result at Leeds I just need to back myself, stay calm and race my race. The full distance is a long day where so much can happen.
I’m pushing for a sub 2:40 marathon. Maybe even the course run record!
