In December, everyone who placed an order through our new app was automatically entered into a prize draw to win £1,000 worth of nutrition for 2026. One winner, one incredible year of fuelling ahead. We’ll be running more of these competitions, but for now, we’re excited to introduce Kate, kicking off the year with a seriously inspiring story...
Kate describes herself as someone who used to be sporty, but, like many, had drifted into a less active routine while juggling work and a young family.
“I had always been quite a sporty child and teenager, but growing up, working as a teacher and starting my family meant that I was quite inactive,” she explained. “In March 2025, aged 35, I joined my local gym on a ten-week programme to get back into fitness.”
That programme sparked something new. Strength training led her to the gym’s run club, and she quickly found herself running regularly.
“I started running with them twice a week and then I signed up to run a marathon,” she said. “I ran a half marathon in November, and my marathon is happening in April 2026, one year after I started running.”
With one year of running under her belt, she’s setting ambitious but grounded targets for the year ahead.
“My main goals this year are to complete the marathon, increase my speed over shorter distances, and do another Hyrox event to build more strength.”
She has committed to completing at least one event every month throughout 2026, with the London Marathon in April as her main focus. It’s a challenge that means more than just mileage: “I’m running the London Marathon on behalf of Anthony Nolan, a charity which means a lot to me personally.”
Winning £1,000 of XMiles credit means she can support her training, racing, and recovery with a full year of nutrition.
“Marathon training involves a lot of long runs and I need the fuel to get me through, so I’ll be getting some gels,” she said. “I particularly like the Torq gels, so I’ll be getting a variety of flavours.”
Kate also plans to explore supplements she hasn’t used before.
“I’m looking forward to trying things like magnesium and creatine to see if these help improve my performance,” she added. Recovery is a big focus too: “I want to get magnesium to aid my recovery post-training.”
Kate's motivation is simple and heartfelt.
“I want to be fit, healthy and active as I get older, especially for my kids,” she said. “The fact that I’m raising money for Anthony Nolan for the marathon is also motivation to get out of the door when it’s wet and cold.”
“For me, finding the community at my local gym, Jones’ Fitness in Biggleswade, has been really key. It’s such a supportive environment and this really helps when you’re trying something new. Celebrate your own progress and don’t compare yourself to others.”
