Robert Turner (Boab) - 2017 XMiles Ambassador
XMiles welcomes Scottish ultra runner Rob Turner (Boab) as an XMiles Ambassador.
Father, Husband, Runner, self employed IT Consultant in that order!! That about sums me up. Like many middle aged men, I only wanted to run to keep fit and fight the bulge but have ended up with the following PB's (as of 2017):
- 5K (Parkrun): 15:53
- 5 Miles: 26:05
- 10K: 32:24
- Half: 71:59
- Marathon: 02:31:13
- 100k: 07:17:11
Highlight of my running has been pulling on a Scotland vest at the 2016 Anglo Celtic Plate competition and picking up the bronze medal in the UK championships. At the ripe old age of 43 is shows you are never too old to realise a dream. I leave no stone unturned in my preparation for a big race, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. I put nutrition, both during training and racing, as the next most important aspect of race preparation after running. Feed your body the right fuel and you will reap the rewards.
Plans for 2017
It would be an honour to pull on another Scotland vest for the 2017 Anglo Celtic Plate in Hull at the end of May. I've entered the Devil O' the Highlands footrace in August, which while not a target race it's is a qualifier for the full West Highland Way Race. Looking beyond that, I would love to run the Comrades ultra marathon in South Africa and maybe do a bit of racing in Europe.
