Inspired by the community-built and ethos of Squirrel's Nut Butter (SNB) in the US, XMiles founder Anthony connected with Chris Thornley at SNB to explore bringing SNB to the UK. After getting hold of a stick of SNB during a holiday in 2017 we knew the product was not just social media hype and wanted to bring chafe free life to the UK!
So in 2018 the journey started to bring SNB to the UK with XMiles, building a strong relationship with the co-founder at Squirrel’s Nut Butter, Chris Thornley, and a shared vision between SNB UK and SNB. We are excited to continue to grow the SNB brand and continue the growth of XMiles UK as a company built on the model of searching for the best products to help endurance sports athletes be the best they can. We are extremely proud to be able to bring the all-natural anti chafe/restorative skin balm to the UK and Ireland with XMiles UK expanded and welcome Squirrel's Nut Butter to our family, becoming Squirrel's Nut Butter UK (SNB UK).
The Squirrel's Nut Nutter skin salve was originally created to heal and restore dry, irritated skin. The co-founders' daughter has eczema and they wanted to soothe it. Over-the-counter ointments and steroid creams weren't working, so, one of the co-founders, Stacy, set to work in her kitchen and eventually concocted a winning recipe. Thanks to the healing powers of all-natural ingredients, their daughter's eczema was relieved.
It was another year before SNB was officially formed. That's when Brian Marshall, nicknamed Squirrel, used SNB stick salve on a mountain bike ride in place of his usual anti-chafe stuff. It worked better than the usual stuff. The co-founders wanted to make the world a chafe-free place, but they needed to name the product before they could market it. In honour of the man who dared to use the skin restoration product in an unconventional way, Squirrel's Nut Butter was born.
Since 2015, SNB have been keeping your skin healthy and free from chafing and blisters. Athletes, outdoor enthusiasts and skincare fanatics have utilised the preventative and healing effects of SNB in running, cycling, triathlon, hiking and everyday life. Since the early days, SNB have expanded the product line beyond the original recipe.
SNB products now include Born to Rub (Not yet available in the UK - Sept 2018), a spicy salve for pre- and post-exercise, Happie Toes, a foot-specific salve blended with peppermint and tea tree oils, and a vegan version of the original Squirrel’s Nut Butter salve.
SNB US are committed to helping athletes achieve their goals and avoid post-race shower yelps. SNB boast a high profile list of ambassadors from Western States 100 winners, U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials qualifiers, and world record holders, to multiple top 10 ultra-marathon finishers, serial marathoners, back-of-the-pack runners, hobby joggers, avid volunteers and race directors. Like SNB, at SNB UK | XMiles UK we believe it's important to keep everyone free from chafing plus being well fuelled to keep you moving forward. That's why we have continued to grow and expand our ambassadors around the UK and Ireland. With a core team of leading UK based athletes we have now opened the ambassador program to 8 new team members. We want UK based ambassadors who climb mountains, play in the snow, circle tracks, blast down roads and manoeuvre through trails across the world, to ensure our team test our products in every condition imaginable. Through it all, we keep them fuelled and free from chafing and blisters.
