2022 Marathons that have to be on your bucket list.

It’s that time of year again. Race training, marathon preparation and event planning. Which race should you take on in 2022? Going for your 1st or 50th marathon? We have all the brilliant marathons going on this year by region. Take a look through and pick your marathon for the 2022 race season! 

North England 

Run Cumbria Solway Marathon

The Solway Marathon is a flat and fast route on the picturesque country roads of North-West Cumbria. The Marathon will start in Anthorn, doing two loops on country lanes through Bowness-on-Solway, then returning to Anthorn via the coastal roads to finish the marathon. The race will feature chip timing by Timing4Sport, with all finishers receiving a finishers medal.

Trail Pursuit: Lake District Mountain Marathon Festival

Fancy more than a marathon? Trail Pursuit offer a weekend experience of trail running, partying and ice baths. Based at Seathwaite Farm, just off the southern end of the Borrowdale Valley, south of Keswick in the Lake District National Park.

Active Northumberland: Kielder Marathon

Known as ‘Britain’s Most Beautiful Marathon’. The Active Northumberland Kielder Marathon route follows an almost entirely off-road course around northern Europe’s largest man-made lake, Kielder Water, in Northumberland.

The Big Pilgrimage

The Big Pilgrimage is a point to point run which follows the start of a newly discovered Pilgrim Trail called ‘The Old Way’. This ancient trail from Southampton to Canterbury was recently found on Britain’s oldest road map, the Gough Map c.1360 and follows beautiful coastal and countryside trails.

The Jurassic Marathon

Setting out from Corfe Castle Swanage, the route heads up onto the Purbeck hills and down through Swanage to the coast. It’s then a loop back past Corfe Castle and beyond, before dropping down onto the coast at Lulworth Cove, and a final push to the rest stop finish line!

Night Nav GPS Marathon

This is an exciting night-time point-to-point marathon run suited for those who enjoy an adventure. Starting at around 6pm to 7pm, you have until 2am (7 hours) to make it to the finish point. Using the supplied GPX file, runners will navigate along the Avon Valley footpath during the night. Finishers will be awarded a bespoke wooden medal.

The Dorset Ooser

Devon Coastal Challenge

Inspired by the Atlantic and Jurassic Coast Challenges the Devon Coast Challenge, now in its 6th year, is just as scenic and rewarding as its established predecessors of Votwo's original 3 marathons in 3 days format.

Run on the Edge

Atlantic Coast Challenge

Now in its 17th year the more windswept and, some might say, interesting younger sibling of the Jurassic Coast Challenge. The route starts near Padstow and finishes at Lands End. Complete up to 78.6 miles (3 marathons) over 3 days by walking, running, or crawling, putting your mental and physical prowess against some of the wildest coastlines in Britain.

East England 

Zig Zag Challenge

A good event for those trying to conquer the A-Z of events, we have decided to do a Zig Zag Challenge event! This race is also ideal for those who want to try and achieve a Marathon distance and for those who also want the option to push a little further, possibly an ultra but without the complications of trail ultras, with next to no navigation, no kit required, an aid station every lap and straightforward logistics.

The Wrangler

In this 6-hour event, run as far as you want during the time allowed and push your own boundaries. With an easy-to-navigate 5.3km lap through the grounds, focus on your own pace and complete as many laps as you can.

Essex Marathon

Challenge yourself to either a Half or Full Marathon in Essex. This is a flat and fast course with tarmac, traffic free running around the former RAF Debden Airfield. The course is designed in the shape of an aircraft in honour of so many RAF and USAAF who were stationed here over the years.

Blacks to the Beacons

The event offers the marathon runners a chance to run from the Black Mountains in the National Park of South Wales, hitting their highest peak and finishing on the Brecon Beacons.

Midnight Mountain Marathon

Run Scotland Rannoch Marathon

There is a great history behind the Loch Rannoch Marathon, going back to the 1980's when it was the course of the Scottish Championships.
